Valve cover gasket

A Valve cover gasket is the seal between the cylinder head of an engine and the valve cover. Cooling channels and oil channels run through the cylinder head. The oil lubricates and cools the valve stems and rocker arms.

In the past, cork gaskets were used as valve cover seals. The cork gasket can still be ordered for MerCruiser 4 cylinder 3.0 and 2.5 liters. The MerCruiser head gasket kit contains the rubber/silicone valve cover gasket.
Over time, the gasket will start to sweat. This has become porous or has dried out due to the heat and cooling. The price of the gasket is so low that replacement is already worthwhile as a preventive measure. This is to limit oil leakage and save the environment
